Planting Program for 2008
Members of FOMI and Volunteers in the Wellington Region have for the
past 10 years planted some 500,000 trees on Mana Island. This effort
completes the 20 Year Restoration Plan in respect of planting.
Planting is still required to provide infill and species planting but on
a much reduced scale. Planting trips are now arranged for smaller groups of
up to 7 persons who stay for 4 to 7 days over the winter period and focus
on planting the 7 to 10,000 trees now raised in the nursery annually.
Volunteers for this work are still required.
Accommodation is available in the Lockwood which sleeps over 20 persons,
and facilities for cooking are available. Volunteers are expected to be
fit, bring suitable clothing and food for the period they intend to remain
on the Island..
